About

Light & Language

One pair of eyes, two ways of paying attention.

I make two things that turn out to be the same thing: photographs and poems. A picture is a held breath; a poem is the caption the breath was waiting for. This site is where I let them keep each other company.

Most of what you'll find here is built around a single idea — the plate: one image, a few lines of verse, nothing else competing for your attention. Some poems stand on their own. Some photographs prefer the silence. But the work I care about most lives in the pairing.

The work

I'm drawn to quiet — early light on water, a single figure in a loud city, the ordinary made briefly strange. I shoot to slow down, and I write to remember why I stopped.

Every photograph is a story waiting to be told, and every poem is a world waiting to be seen.

Prints

Many of the photographs are available as fine-art prints, made to order on archival paper. If an image asks to live on your wall, you can bring it home from the print store.
